The planned outcome of the kassiope-project is an Open Source development environment for business applications whose featurese are:

• The whole information about the target system (the system to be developed with kassiope) is held in a repository.
• The repository is managed by a user interface.
• Programs can be generated out of the repository. The generated programs manipulate (create, read, update, delete) data-records in the target database.
• Simple programs without special algorithms do not need additional programming beyond generation.
• Algorithms of any complexity can be added to programs to be generated. This does not influence repeated generation.
• The development environment is based on Open Source products; the repository is held in a MySQL-database, user-interface and generator are programmed in PHP.
• The target systems are generated for PHP and MySQL, too. In further releases other databases and programming languages are possible.

Generating business applications has got the following advantages over conventional programming:

• Productivity:  Developers are relieved of routine matters and can focus on the real interesting and difficult stuff.
• Quality: There will be no bugs in generated parts of the programs. Developers have more time for complex algorithms and can fully focus on them. All programs really work the same way, there is a consistent look-and-feel.
